The Varsity softball team brought their bats to Moraga and scored a season high 19 runs on a season high 16 hits in the game while also collecting 10 walks as the Dons defeated Campo 19-8 on Tuesday to bring their record to 11-4 on the season.
The Dons got on the board in the top of the first inning after Santana Tamayo singled to drive in the first two runs of the game after Emme Young led off the game with a walk and Esa Orman was hit by a pitch. Young and Vanessa Choi, who came in to pinch run for Orman, quickly stole second and third to set up Tamayo. Maya Shoenhair walked and Lulu Levy was also hit by a pitch to load the bases for Nicole Parlett. Parlett walked to drive in another run and then Lauren Foster also walked to bring in a run to make it 4-0 after the top of the first.
The Dons added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Shoenhair tripled, scoring two runs. Gabby Huerta led off the inning with a double to left center, followed by and Orman single to put runners on before Shoenhair’s triple. Levy then brought in another run with a ground ball. Parlett then doubled down the left field line and Riley Zirkel hit a single to left advancing Parlett to third before Foster singled to bring Parlett for the final run of the inning.
The offense kept rolling in the third inning as the Dons scored five more runs. After a walk by Orman, Tamayo reached on an error, then Lana Cerejo drew a walk to load the bases and Levy singled, scoring one run. Parlett drew another walk to bring in a run before Choi hit into a fielder’s choice to score a run before Young singled to bring in a run and Huerta walked to bring in the 5th run of the inning.
The Dons got their final two runs in the 5th inning. Ella Greenfield singled to lead off the inning and took second on an error. Tamayo then singled to bring in Greenfield and would eventually score on a single from Avery Robb to bring the run total to 19.
In the game, the Dons tallied 16 hits in the game. Levy, Robb, Foster and Tamayo each drove in three runs. The Dons also had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 10 walks for the game with Foster, Cerejo, and Parlett leading the team with two walks. Young, Choi, Robb and Tamayo each stole multiple bases as the Dons stole 10 bases in the game.
Next up for the Dons is a league game away at Concord on Thursday, followed by a home game next Monday @ 4:00 against Monte Vista.
