The Acalanes JV Lady Lacrosse Dons ran their record to 11 wins and 0 losses after defeating Miramonte 21-1 and College Park 17-1. The Lady Dons have made quick work of every team that they have played this season. It has been a masterful display by a remarkable group of young women. Not only is this group great at lacrosse but more importantly they are a wonderful group of people that all have become friends on and off the field. It is such a pleasure to watch the comradery and bonding and it clearly shows in their play!
ACALANES 21 MIRAMONTE 1
It was a cold and rainy afternoon when the Dons went to Orinda to play the Matadors. The Mats players all stood under a tent when not in the game but not those tough and gritty Lady Dons. They knew that at some point everyone would get in the game (34 players) and they wanted to be ready. And ready they were as the Dons jumped out to 9-0 first quarter lead. The Dons lead by Taylor Mikalis, Maya Stafford, Grace Epinger, Edie Berzansky and Addie McShane controlled every draw which gave the Dons every possession. They also made great use of the those possessions highlighted by Christina Hageboeck’s 7 goals, Kate Beavers 4 goals, and a variety of goals from those mentioned above including new player Sela Sarbiewski!
The most amazing statistic was that the Lady Dons had 15 assists, which is incredible. It is a new record for Acalanes JV Girls Lacrosse! The Assist leaders were Kate Uffleman with 3, Taylor with 2, Edie, Maya, Grace, Addie, Samantha Swift, Lucy Thomas and defense stars Julie Lyons and Resse Westphal with at least one apiece. A special shout out needs to go to new player Kenneri Vivek who had two assists!
The defense led by Maddie Obertello, Katelyn Weiss, Zoe Braunstein, Mollie Jones, Ruby Bolgan along with others including the incredibly Goalie Sarah Hession, held the Mats scoreless until the Dons had built up an insurmountable lead.
It was still raining when the final horn sounded but these amazing running lady Dons knew that they had just played their best game of the year and they were all smiles!
ACALANES 17 COLLEGE PARK 1
The sun came out and so did those gritty and hustling JV Girls Lacrosse players! College Park came to Acalanes with a 6 and 1 record. A super nice group of young ladies but they were fairly confident that they could beat the Dons….nope. Not only could they not beat the Dons, they were losing 9 to 0 at halftime. Without the Dons captain and draw specialist Maya Stafford, other players like Grace Eppinger, Kate Uffleman, Addie McShane and Taylor Mikalis stepped up big time. After a few losses on the circle these young ladies stepped up with Taylor, Grace and Edie Berzansky grabbling multiple loose balls. The scoring lease was Kate Beaver who scored 4 goals and had an assist but not far behind was Taylor with 3 (plus three assists, Grace with 2, Kate U. with 2, Christina Hageboeck with 2 and Lucy Thomas, Edie, Cate Mercier and Grace Hayes (on an incredible shot) with one. Assists leaders included Samantha Swift and Stella Pacheco.
The Defense welcomed by the formerly injured Emme Martin who played an incredible game in shutting down the high powered CP offense along with Maddie Obertello, Addie, Edie, Julia Lyons (once again played as if she was a Middie on the transitions!), Katelyn Weiss, Reese Westphal, Mollie Jones, Zoey Braunstein and Ruby Bogan.
All of the new players contributed and looked great on the field including up and coming midfielder Svea Staino along with attack players Stella Degroot, Kenneri Vivek, Willa Wolcott and defender Persephone Quine.
It was another wonderful evening for this amazing team that refuses to lose.
After the game there was a special moment and presentation for a young toddler named Lucy and her family who are battling for her health and her life. It was such a beautiful moment as the entire Acalanes Lacrosse program honored these wonderful people.
After break the JV Lady Dons are back at it with a game in San Francisco against University High. They are having fun and winning. Having fun is truly what it is all about!
GOOOOOOO DOOOOONS!
