The Dons traveled to Oakland on Wednesday night for their match up against Bishop O’Dowd. The team was slow to get started on attack, with Lucca DeBiasse scoring the only goal for the Dons in the first quarter. They headed into the second quarter down 3-1.
Thankfully, things started to pick up on offense and the dons got some scoring going, starting with a goal by Grace Imrie on a penalty shot. From there, DeBiasse scored her second goal, followed again by Imrie with a nice drive to the goal. Keeping the momentum going, Ella Thomason rolled one into the net and Catalina Liu took one around the crease to score, tying up the game at 6-6 with just a few minutes left in the half. O’Dowd proved they were still in the game by scoring one more just before the buzzer, leaving the Dons down 7-6 at the half.
After some much needed rest at the half, the Dons came into the third quarter ready to play. The midfielders hustled to take possession on the draw and our defense put the pressure on O’Dowd forcing them to make errors and turn the ball over. In goal, Addie Martin held off their attack with some incredible saves. With the ball back on attack, Liu scored on a well placed penalty shot, while Imrie hit the back of the net for the third time. Liu was not quite finished scoring, completing a hat trick for the night with another roll around the crease for a goal, ending the quarter tied 9-9.
In the fourth and final quarter, the Dons kept control of the ball and set up their offense, paving the way for Grace Colaco to score on a penalty shot and Imrie to drive to the goal and score her fourth of the night. Martin was key in goal with a whopping 10 saves on the night. While they started off slowly, they finished strong and were happy to take home an 11-9 win! The Dons will face Miramonte on the road on Friday, March 22 at 7pm.
