Strictly adhering to the team’s mantra…run fast and turn left…the distance runners posted strong results at this weekend Dan Gabor Invitational, a premier Bay Area distance running event held in the cold and rain in Dublin on Saturday.
Leading the girl’s team, in a familiar position, was senior Olivia William’s who placed 1st in the 3200 meters in a very quick 11:11 which was the 5th fastest 3200 time in school history. Sophomore Nevis Murphy placed 4th in the 800 meters in 2:23.98 and 7th in the 1600 meters in 11:34.82, senior Megan Yee placed 8th in the 800 meters in 2:27.73 and 10th in the 1600 meters, freshman Anju Sekhon finished 14th in the 1600 meters in 12:27.01 and junior Cameron Powell finished 19th in the 1600 meters in 12:38. The results were especially notable considering the size of the field, with many races having up to 175 competing athletes.
Leading the boy’s team was Logan Farzan who finished 12th in the 3200 meters in 9:42.39 and 24th in the 1600 meters (with a field of 386!).
The Dons open league meets on Tuesday, at home, vs. the Clayton Valley Ugly Eagles (their words, not ours).
