On a Friday night with far superior weather compared to last week’s deluge, our Acalanes Dons fought hard but could not prevail against the Northgate Broncos. The Broncos jumped to a quick 3-0 lead, but the resilient Dons came back with goals from Brody Darin and Jan Korzeniowski.
At halftime, the score was 2-7 which had the Dons within striking distance, but the Broncos came out fast in the third quarter and stretched their lead once again. The Dons defense hustled hard all night but found themselves a bit shorthanded without their co-Captain and defensive leader in Colin Malmquist.
Marshall Andersen did score twice on the night and Brody Darin added another goal in the second half but in the end it wasn’t enough to beat the Broncos on their home field.
Val Grossi’s performance in goal was very strong, racking up an impressive 13 saves against a powerful Northgate offense that featured college commits.
The wins may not be coming easily for this team (yet), but no doubt the learning is adding up for this young varsity squad. And much like the weather, we’re pretty sure the team’s brightest days are ahead. Sco Dons!
