The Dons Varsity Softball dispatched Mt. Diablo Lady Devils on Monday, 14-3, to extend their winning streak to four games and push their record to 7-3 on the season. The game was a good tuneup for the team as they get ready for a big game on Thursday hosting College Park for the last game before spring break.
The Dons got things going early as Emme Young led off with a double to left field. Later in the inning, Esa Orman was hit by a pitch and Santana Tamayo walked to load the bases. Young was able to score on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.
Maya Shoenhair started and earned the win for the Dons as she threw three no-hit innings not allowing a run, striking out 2 and walking one. In the bottom of the first, the Dons got the first out on a bunt, then after a walk, Orman gunned out the runner at second to catch her trying to steal second. Then SS Riley Zirkel made a nice play on a hard ground ball and threw to a stretching Gabby Huerta at 1B for the final out of the inning.
The Dons exploded for 4 runs in the top of the second. Lulu Levy got things going with a hard line drive to left. And after Avery Robb was hit by a pitch, Young walked to load the bases again. Zirkle walked, Orman was hit by a pitch again to drive in Robb, and Tamayo hit a hard groundball to drive in a run. When the dust cleared, the Dons had a 5-0 lead.
After a quick 1,2,3 inning in the bottom of the second, the Dons offense continued to score runs in the top of the third and fourth innings. The Dons added three more runs and took an 8-0 lead in the third. Then in the fourth inning, Nicole Parlett got on with a walk, Robb smashed a single to left followed by a single from Lauren Foster to load the bases for Orman who doubled to left field and drive in 3 more runs to take an 11-0 lead.
Lana Cerejo then came in to pitch for the Dons to close out the game for the final two innings. The Dons finished out the scoring in the top of the 5th on a single by Cerejo, followed by a double from Ella Greenfield to score Cerejo. Foster would single again to drive in the final two runs for the Dons as Cerejo easily handled the final inning to secure the win.
The Dons collected 10 hits in the game, with Orman driving in four runs, as Young and Foster lead the team with 2 hits while the Dons combined to pile up 8 walks.
The red hot Dons host College Park at Acalanes at 4:30, come out for a fun day at the ballpark!
