After going undefeated in League for the 2nd year in a row the girls were the #1 seed in the DAL Tourney. With wins against Campolindo and Northgate, the Lady Dons faced #2 seed Miramonte in the title game. The game started with both teams scoring and was close for the first few minutes. However, our girls began to assert themselves behind relentless full court pressure. By the half the score was 38 to 19 Dons with Dulci Vail scoring 25 of her game and career high 36 points in the first half alone. The second half proved to be more of the same with the lead ballooning to 40+ points before the dogs were called off. Dulci Vail was clearly the star of the night with her 36 points, Ariana Hallstrom added 16 points and KK Lacanlale scored 10. The overall team effort on defense was outstanding, as Miramonte’s guards struggled to get the ball past half court.
In the preceding game against Northgate KK Lacanlale scored a game high 25 points in a 30 point victory. In round 1 against Campolindo it was Natalie Frechman as the high scorer with 15 points in the rout.
With the League title this year it makes for 3 consecutive League Titles. Currently the girls’ league winning streak stands at 30 games in a row. It’s also 5 out of the last 6 years the Lady Dons have won league, as the covid year was the only outlier. The girls now move on to the NCS Open Division Playoffs hosting Bishop O’dowd at home Thursday night.
