Following a couple of wins in their first two league games, the Dons boys soccer club travelled to De La Salle on Saturday for a morning match against Sequoia High from Redwood City in the DLS Soccer Showcase. After a back-and-forth 1st half that did not produce a goal, the Dons once again opened the scoring about 10 minutes into the 2nd half when Jonny Roth sent a free kick towards the goal from about 30 yards out and Ben Pecci headed it in for a sweet-looking goal! The Acalanes’ forwards put pressure on the Sequoia defense all day long. After the opposing goalie knocked a scoring chance out of bounds, Pecci hustled to launch a throw-in at the goal and it bounced off a defender and found the back of the net to put the Dons up 2-0. Sequoia took advantage of a late foul and sent the resulting penalty kick in to pull to within 2-1 but the Dons’ stout defense protected the lead and Acalanes had won their third straight contest. Man of the Match goes to Ben Pecci! Tonight, Friday, Dec 22nd at 7:15 the Dons travel to Las Lomas for a big matchup against one of the league’s strongest teams. Let Go Dons!!
