After beating a very good St Ignatius team Thursday night it was on the host Marin Catholic Friday. The Lady Dons jumped out early on MC 8 to 0 and extended the lead to 28 to 10 in the 2nd quarter. However, the hosts were a tough minded resilient group that wouldn’t go away. The final was Acalanes 52 and MC 36. KK Lacanlale lead all scorers with 25, while Dulci Vail added 16.
Saturday it was on the tournament championship against the St Mary’s Stockton Rams who came in ranked #5 in California by CalHiSports. St Mary’s was led by 5-star phenom Jordan Lee who was last year’s NorCal player of the year, a top 10 ranked player in the nation for the Class of 2024 and a Texas Commit. The first quarter was an absolute track meet with both teams going up and down the court scoring at a blazing pace. It was 20 to 19 St Marys end of 1. The Dons clamped up the defense in the second quarter with Sophie Chinn doing a very good job on Lee with help from teammates. This led to a 31 to 28 Dons lead at the break.
After trading baskets after the half the Lady Dons were able to extend the lead to 11 points in the 3rd. However, St Mary’s stormed back to cut the lead to 2 with the end of 3rd with the score showing Dons 47 St Mary’s 45. The 4th quarter was marked by back and forth action with the score remaining very close until the final minutes when Lee took over the game scoring and assisting to propel the Rams to a 63 to 58 victory. Dulci Vail led the Dons with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Ariana Hallstrom (8 rebounds) and KK Lacanlale both scored 14 and Sophie Chinn added 9 points and 8 rebounds.
This game showed the girls can play with just about anyone. Hopefully it will be used as a stepping stone to get ready for playoffs. The girls are in action next Tuesday night on the road at Heirtage at 7pm.
A special congratulations goes out to KK Lacanlale and Sophie Chinn for being selected to the All Tournament Team.
