Record: 6-2
“A scrapy game. A scrapy win.” Stated Donovan McGrath about the JV Basketball team’s latest win. Donovan, better known as Donnie, chipped in two points toward the victory. The JV Dons defeated Los Lomas Knights 68-53. The win improved Acalanes to 6-2 on the year.
The game started out sluggishly for both teams. Arman Craig, #23, go the Dons on the board. Chase Bahou and AJ Hastings contributed to the quarter. Yet, it was the Knights that had the spark and energy early on as they dominated the offensive boards and came up with lose balls. Coach Thomas responded with several new players, one of which was Julian Hood. Julian hit a three pointer toward the end of the quarter to give the Dons an early lead of 19-16.
At the end of the quarter, Coach Thomas stressed to his team be more physical, capture rebounds, and spread the ball to open players. The Dons listened to their coach and pushed their lead to 28-18. The quarter ended with AJ Hasting being fouled on a nice layup. Acalanes led 37-29 at halftime.
For the third quarter, the JV team starters maintained the team’s lead. Chase Bahou hit a nice three pointer, quickly followed by another three pointer from his teammate, Lorenzo Cangini. Lorenzo, who led the Dons with 18 points, showcased his talent by scoring from inside and outside throughout the game. The small forward along with AJ Hastings pushed the Dons led to 51-36. At this point, Thomas went to his bench to give other players an opportunity to contribute. The Dons ended the third quarter leading by eleven points.
The final quarter started with Chase Bahou doing a nice layup. Chase quickly followed this nice move with a corner three pointer. With about two minutes left, the Dons were ahead of the Knights 64 to 51. At the one-minute mark, Coach Thomas emptied his bench, which included Deonte Littlejohn. This was Deonte first opportunity of the season since he was a key member of the Acalanes Varsity football team, which just won the state title. Go Dons!
The JV Basketball team will continue their season on Saturday, December 16. The Dons face Rodriquez at home. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30pm. We hope you come out and support our Dons!
