Twas two nights before Christmas, when all through the house,
not a creature was scoring, not a Knight or a mouse.
The stockings and shinguards were put on with care,
in hopes that a victory would soon be there.
When late on the field there arose such a clatter,
The Dons scored again and the rest didn’t matter!
As they left the field Coach Curtis did exclaim….
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a GREAT night!
Just hours after finishing up final exams (collective Hooray!), the Boys Varsity soccer team faced another challenge in a formidable Las Lomas Knights squad on Friday night in Walnut Creek. The Knights hoped to be the Grinch and steal the Dons hopes with an early second-half goal that rattled in off the far post to earn the match’s first goal. However, joy was quickly restored in Blueville when Nikko “White Christmas” was taken down in the penalty box, setting up Colin Sohn to deke the Las Lomas goalkeeper and net the penalty kick to even the score. The Knights put pressure on the Dons defense most of the evening but the boys in blue and white consistently fended off the attacks. The Dons backline repeatedly repelled scoring opportunities with some nifty work from defenders Omri Noiman and Jonny Roth and many others while Jake Boselli stopped a variety of shots on goal and chased down loose balls on the edges.
The play got a little rough throughout the second half with a number of players going down. The match appeared to be headed for a 1-1 tie with only a couple of minutes left in stoppage time, but Ben Pecci lofted a long pass down the right sideline and the Dons’ other forwards went dashing downfield. White beat the Knights defenders to the ball in the right corner and gifted Lucas Dissman with a beautiful crossing pass that Lucas delivered into the net to put the Dons up 2-1. The Acalanes sideline erupted and sent the Blueville fans into a blizzard of joy.
Omri Noiman was given “Man of the Match” for his defending prowess. This was the Dons 4th win in a row, keeping their Diablo Valley league standings at 3-0, and sending them into the holiday break with great excitement about what the new year may hold for the team! All Ye (Dons) Faithful appreciated the early Christmas gift as they wandered home to finish trimming their trees with big smiles on their faces.
The Acalanes Alumni game will take place next Tuesday 12/26 at 5pm – come out and be amused as some of the Dons soccer stars from previous decades try to chase down the youngsters on the Acalanes pitch.
Happy Holidays to the Dons Community!
