The boys in blue played their final home game of the season and took down the Vallejo Red Hawks in the NCS Semi Finals on a rainy Friday night, 56-20. The Seniors went out with a bang, as they completed a two game playoff sweep at home over the last two weeks.
The Acalanes running game was clicking on all cylinders. The Dons ran for 239 yards, led by Jack Miller with 76 tough yards on 12 carries and 3 touchdowns!
Jack Giorgianni, Niko White and Deonte Littlejohn also ran one in for a touchdown. All told, Acalanes runners found the endzone 6 times in this key playoff contest.
The big boys on the offensive line (Andrew Tresser, Brady Morrow, JD Orear, Henry Hagel and Drew Mc Kenzie) did a fantastic job of opening large holes for the Acalanes ball carriers all night long.
Quarterback Sully Bailey was 8-9 for 154 yards and 2 touchdowns, as the Dons displayed their all around offensive game throughout the evening.
Defensively, Colin Malmquist led the team in tackles with 8 and Deonte Littlejohn added 5 tackles (2 for losses). Chase Caicedo and Aiden Yates both came through with key sacks to slow down the Red Hawk offense, as well.
Defensive Back Gavin Bender also added a drive stopping interception.
The boys got off to a quick start in the first half with two Jack Miller rushing touchdowns, a Niko White touchdown scamper (24 yards) and two Sully Bailey TD passes to Trevor Rodgers (19 yards) and Paul Kuhner (47 yards). The Dons led 35-7 at halftime.
Paul Kuhner had a big day with two catches for 78 yards and a touchdown, as well as two punt returns for 46 yards and a rush for 20 yards.
The second half was more of the same as the Dons built up their lead to 49-7 after three quarters, before a couple of late Red Hawk scores settled the final tally at Acalanes 56 Vallejo 20.
The boys now travel to a neutral site at Santa Rosa High School to face the 12-0 San Marin Mustangs in the D4 NCS Championship on Friday at 7pm. This will be the third time in the past 15 months that Acalanes has played San Marin. The Dons beat the Mustangs by 7 last year in the season opener, before losing this year’s opener by 7 in Marin. This game will determine who’s best.
The time is now! Grab your gear, rally your crew and head out to Santa Rosa to support the boys on Friday. It doesn’t get any bigger than this. Dons Nation Unite! Let’s Go Boys!!
