The Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team opened the season with a dominating performance over Napa Vintage. The young Dons soundly defeated their opponent 80 to 46.
The JV Dons jumped on Vintage early with a 13-1 run highlight by Josh Elerts dominating the paint and Gavin Bears hitting several shots from outside. Acalanes continued to outpace Vintage in the 2nd quarter. AJ Hastings, a freshman, started the scoring with a three pointer, but the true star of the quarter was Lorenzo Cangini. Besides hitting a three pointer, Lorenzo hit a highly contested shot as time expired.
The second half continued in the home team’s favor. Illias Kaplanes-Jones set the tone with an opening steal that led to an easy layup. Josh Elerts continued to dominate. The returning JV player poured in a team high 20 points. By the end of the three quarters, Acalanes was well ahead of Vintage by 62 to 41. For the 4th quarter, Coach Eric Thomas substituted each member of the team into the game. Donovan McGrath came off the bench to pour in five points for the final quarter. It was a great first game for the young team as each player either scored or had a rebound. The JV team will look to build upon their success with the John Rhodes Tournament.
