The Lady Dons started the season at the Pinole Valley Invitational on Saturday. Originally the girls were scheduled to play Antelope who ended up dropping out of the event late last week. Instead Eureka was the opponent. Eureka came in 2-0 with a blowout victory over Miramonte on Friday.
After exchanging baskets to start the game it didn’t take long for our girls to jump all over Eureka. The Dons full court press was overwhelming as endless forced turnovers led to an early blowout. By halftime it was 51 to 13 Dons. The girls coasted the rest of the way for an anticlimactic first victory of 80 to 28.
Natalie Frechman and Ariana Hallstrom were the scoring leaders with 19 points each, while Sophie Chinn added 18 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. KK Lacanale added 11 points, 10 assists and 6 steals from her PG position. Dulci Vail also chipped in 12 points.
On Thursday the girls begin the highly regarded Marin Catholic Invitational where they open up with a solid St Ignatius squad.
