Our Lady Dons visited the #1 seeded Mt. Tam Hawks on Wednesday night in the semifinals of the NCS tournament. Hoping to upset the top seeded Hawks, the Dons came out a bit slow trying to adjust to the visiting surroundings. #7 MaeLin Mason started it off with a great kill off a very nice set from #16 Emme Seelenbacher. #17 Sophia Terry had both an incredible roof block and kill to keep the Lady Dons in the first set. #13 Addi Ames had a well-placed kill that eluded the defense. #9 Piper Coy continued her hot play with a bruising kill. #15 Kylah Rose Fox had multiple kills including a perfectly placed roll kill. It wasn’t enough as Mt. Tam won 14-25.
In set 2, #4 Mika Bocobo smoked an ace to get the Dons the lead. #12 Addy Treter drilled a kill. Sophia continued her strong play with another roof block and kill. Piper Coy had an exceptional set with multiple kills including a beautiful cross kill that had the defense looking for answers. #1 Jade Profilio had a crushing ace that gained another point. MaeLin had another kill to keep the set score close. This set 2 was close, but it went Mt. Tam’s way, 22-25.
In set 3, MaeLin had multiple kills hoping to force another set. #11 Christina Hageboeck had a sneaky kill from the setter position that flummoxed the defense of Mt. Tam. Piper hit a kill off a blocker. Both Jade and Mika continued their strong serving with aces. Addi Ames had nice kill off a smooth set from Christina. It was 22-22 and the Dons just couldn’t pull it out, losing 22-25 again.
Because the Lady Dons finished in the final 4, they qualified for the State tournament and will find out their foes on Sunday. The season continues!!
