Acalanes v. Campo
Oh boy, here we go. Campo lost to the JV squad in their first meet up and the Dons knew those Campo girls would be out for blood.
The gym itself was hotter than the surface of Mars and we all witnessed some of the Campo boosters cooking scrambled eggs on the sidewalk. Ok, we didn’t, but it was friggin’ hot in there.
Cougars were in fine form, but I gotta say that their attendance was lack luster, especially compared to the LOUD Dons fans who were here to make NOISE!
Game 1.
Dons drew first blood on a Sydney Graves serve with an Ellie Blanchard slam to let the Cougars know why we were here.
Strong smacks from both sides and clutch plays by Maggie Krackeler and Ellie had us on our way.
Well timed cross court by Meher Jeyakrishnan, sweet touch serves by Valeria Toledo and hanging tough through rallies kept the dominating Dons in the drivers seat in game 1.
A DOMINATING SUH-MACK DOWN by Meher had the cougars quakin’ as Stella Larkin saved a heck of a ball in the back court to keep the movement moving!
Set slam-Stella to Ellie and baby was that something to witness, wow! Points were flowing our way!!
And THAT forced a Cougar T-O
And some MADNESS at the net, seriously considering it wasn’t “our house,” us fans were “Dancin’ in the street” because we were winning the crazy net battles on the whole and suddenly it was 18-9 Dons.
Valeria’s soft touch at the net gave the ball to Ellie whose serve was backed up by some KILLER one-handed digs by Stella and Meher who were putting on a clinic!!
As game 1 came to a close, you could hear the Cougar doubt creeping into the gym.
Game 1 was in the bag!
Game 2.
As the Dons swaggered onto the floor Campo took the ball and placed it in the hands of, I don’t know – probably a sophomore, but it didn’t matter…it’s not their ball, it’s ours and because of that we took it right back.
Val’s – SMACKDOWN ARM lit up the Cougars as they stood dumbfounded at her velocity and grace. She served, and the team defended and crushed their spirits, their very will to fight to win, point by point.
Sure, every once in a while we gave them the chance to serve and make points, it’s only fair, but it’s not really a “contest” in the sense of balanced skills on the teams.
Slam down the throat by Sydney Scovic, by Maggie Krackeler and some sweet serves by Amelia Easley. And Ella Chong stepped in to serve up her trademarked smackdown ball at the net.
T – OH OH OH OH OH!!!
Oh, yeah, back to volleyball. 10-2 Dons in game 2. Maybe this JV team needs to do some traveling and start playing out of league Varsity teams for some real competition.
Val put a little English on the ball in support of Sydney Graves serve and Lourdes Smith grabbed a one hand save at the floor to keep it alive!
The longest Cougar streak (3 points) was brutally ended by an Ellie stank smack and we were sitting on a 17-8 lead.
Leslie Trowbridge came in to lend a hand with the rock in the Cougars paws and a combo of her, and Meher ripped that ball out of the paws unscathed. And you know what? Another Cougar T- OH OH OH OH OH OH.
BTW’s ZERO Dons T-O’s so far in the game…
Look, it’s tough facing such a superior opponent, and you’ve got to give it to the cats for even showing up, but the strength and precision of the Dons was something to witness. There is a reason these girls are UNDEFEATED!
Oh boy when Ella gets her hands on a cross court opportunity it is SOMETHING TO SEE!!! I’d hate to face it. Lucky there isn’t a
Parents v. Kids game in this league!
By the time the match point was upon us, man the Cougars looked tired. You’ve got to hand it to them for hanging in there, but facing Stella’s serve isn’t something I’d wish on anyone. And the Wease (Stella’s nickname) delivered!!!
The Dons JV season should just keep going. These girls are undefeated and it’s a shame it has to end. So, I’m starting a petition to keep these girls going through the winter! C’mon now!!!
Go Dons!!!
