Last week was a big week for the Lady Dons! On Tuesday, August 29th, they hosted the Redwood High School Giants. For the Varsity team, Lady Dons sprinter Ella Del Rosario easily won the sprint and put the Dons on the scoreboard in the first two minutes of the game. Senior Brooklyn Plomp quickly added two more goals, followed by one more form senior Sophie Hendrickson. Junior Maddie Walsh was on fire with two more and the first quarter wasn’t even over! The Lady Dons continued to dominate during the second quarter with two more goals by Ella Del Rosario and another from Sophie Hendrickson. The third quarter started with a goal from freshman Finley Graff and another one by Brooklyn Plomp. Junior Levand Koopah finished up the quarter with a beautiful goal after a great assist from senior Liv Hoppe. Sophomore Olivia Whipple started the fourth quarter with a steal and sunk it into the cage. The final score was 15-3 Acalanes.
The next day, the Lady Dons headed to San Anselmo to face the Archie Williams Pirates who were ready to rumble as soon as the whistle blew! After an aggressive first few plays and steals on both sides, the Pirates scored the first goal. The Lady Dons fought back and senior Liv Hoppe shot a beautiful goal to tie up the score. The Pirates didn’t back down and scored to edge ahead of the Dons 2-1. Ella Del Rosario didn’t let that score stand for long when she sunk one in to tie the score followed by a solid penalty shot which gave the Dons a 3-2 lead. Ella wasn’t finished and less than a minute later, she faked out the goalie for another goal. The Pirates continued to battle but the Lady Dons added to their bounty with goals from Liv Hoppe, Wendy Heffelfinger, and Ella Del Rosario to round out the half with a score of 8-2 AHS. Strong defense by both teams kept the scoring to one goal each for the third quarter, but the Lady Dons weren’t done yet! With only a minute left in the game, junior Levand Koopah shot the last goal to end the game with a final score of 10-3. Goalie, Adelyn Horciza did an amazing job blocking both the balls and the Archie Williams hecklers throughout the match.
The JV Lady Dons had a great game winning 7-3, highlighted by freshman, Erin Lerch, who scored 4 goals! A day later, the Lady Dons continued their winning streak against the Archie Williams Pirates. The JV Lady Dons started off strong and kept their momentum throughout the game, claiming a 9-3 victory.
