FRESHMAN GIRLS VOLLEYBALL!!!!

After a disappointing loss against rival Campolindo, the frosh girls hit the road for a big league game against Miramonte. With Devyn “Beast” Murphy out with a pesky trampoline injury, the team needed a new beast to look to, and the girls regrouped and delivered as a team.

With a new line-up the girls looked a bit in disarray the first game, yet still had some shining moments. Eloise Green continued with her strong serves, and Lily Cervenka and Maggie Marusich scored with some key hits. The back row was solid, and despite losing 14-15, Ella Greenfield came up with a great dig that fired up the team to rally. Lily’s strong serving in the final points put the Dons on top at 25-21.

Game two was a hard fought, neck and neck battle. Tselmeg Orgilmunkh, came on mid-game with some great passing and defensive plays to keep the Dons in it at 12-13. Maggie topped it off with a huge block, tieing up the game. Lexi Chaput also delivered with a great pass followed by a huge hit to put the Dons up 14-13. Lily continued to shine with strong hitting from the outside, and Lexi debuted a fancy new jump serve, but unfortunately the Dons couldn’t keep up with Miramonte’s consistency and lost 23-25.

The tie-breaker was another hard fought battle with the two teams going point for point. The Lexi and Lily duo continued to deliver from the outside with hits and dinks, and Caitlyn McAuliffe’s strong serving and blocking put the Dons in the lead 10-7. From there the Dons ran away with it. Reina Dekel executed at the serving line, Harper delivered a strong hit, and Maggie hammered home three big hits in the final minutes to finish off the Matadors 15-9. Congrats to Caitlyn for winning the juice award!

Halfway through the season, the Frosh are now 4-2 in league, and are ready to avenge the losses to very strong Northgate and Campo teams in the coming weeks. Sco Dons!
