The Frosh Volleyball team had a great showing in their first official week as high school athletes. The first game they showed their skill against Archie Williams winning handily in 2 sets. Even more impressive is their team togetherness at such an early juncture, and their amazing competitive spirit. Check them out in their team intro video, where they Bring the Juice!
Over the weekend, the team traveled to Sonoma for a highly competitive frosh tournament. The level of play was high and the games extremely close. The team battled against a strong Menlo-Atherton team and a coach with a penchant for “icing the server” on game points. The team lost that first match but came back strong to beat a powerful Rancho Cotati team.
In bracket play, the team met up with MA again, winning the first set in a close one. Set two was a heartbreaker as the girls came back from an 8 pt deficit only to lose 26-24. Set three was in the bag with a 14-8 pt lead, but again the coach iced our servers and we lost 26-24. One of our players said in our team group chat before the tournament …”this is big girl volleyball now,” and learning opportunities and needed preparation for the chaotic atmosphere of our upcoming league games will serve the team well as they make their way through the season. There’s lots of volleyball ahead!
Player of the Match – Juice Belt
After every game, the coaches select a ‘player of the match’ who are recognized by a ‘Juice Award’ (juice pouch/snacks) and presented with the ‘Juice Belt’ (orange fruit fanny pack) where it’s team tradition to wear to school the next day.
