It was a tough day on Thursday for Acalanes Varsity Dons, who fell 12-2 to Northgate Broncos ending their 3 game winning streak.
Northgate got things moving in the bottom of the first inning scoring one run. However, the Dons came right back in the top of the second inning to even the score. A walk by Tess Gundacker, followed by a sacrifice bunt from Maya Shoenhair, then a hard hit ground ball from Avery Robb forced an error and Gundacker came around to tie the game.
Northgate pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning and the Dons were unable to mount a comeback.
Hailey Stripling had a highlight for the Dons in the 3rd inning with a triple down the third base line and sliding into third to beat the throw. Esa Orman then drove in Stripling for the Dons second run of the game.
Shoenhair was in the pitcher’s circle to start the game and lasted two and a third innings and Lana Cerejo threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Orman and Stripling each collected one hit to lead Acalanes.
The Acalanes Softball Dons have 3 games this week, Mon at St. Pat’s, Tuesday at San Leandro and Thursday’s Home Game vs. Berean Christian. Come out and see them play on Thursday, first pitch 4:30.
