The Dons traveled to sunny San Ramon to play against Dougherty Valley on Wednesday night. After so many cold, wet games, the Dons would normally welcome the sun! However, the Wildcats clearly won the coin flip, opting for the Dons to play with the setting sun in their eyes for the first half. Even with that disadvantage, Acalanes outscored the Wildcats in the first half 9-5. The Dons continued to outscore the Wildcats, despite some interesting decisions by the refs, in the second half, with a final score of 14-9.
Acalanes had seven different goal scorers during the game, with Megan Churchill leading the charge with 6 goals of her own. Haley Rurka found the back of the net 3 times. Tea Smith, Ella Thomason, Lucy Gellman, Maya Wang, and Grace Imrie scored as well. Making assists for the Dons were Imrie, Smith, Thomason, Churchill and Rurka. Imrie absolutely owned the draw circle, which had a huge impact on the game. The Dons were on top of loose balls as well, with Imrie controlling 5, Thomason controlling 2, and Smith, Churchill, Gellman, Rurka, Cate Condy, Kelly Todhunter and Jenna Steele each controlling one. The defense also played well with goalie Addie Martin coming up with big saves when needed.
The Dons take the field again on Tuesday, April 18th at home against College Park at 7pm, playing in honor of the Dons’ spectacular seniors. Come out and support the Dons on Senior Night!
