Anticipating an unbalanced match up in the Dons’ favor, Acalanes continually shifted personnel and line-up throughout the game, but the Dons still ran away with a 14-3 win over Ygnacio Valley on Thursday night. The Dons cruised to an easy 8-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Dons pulled star goalie Addie Martin and played her on attack, with teammates continually feeding her the ball in hopes that she might score a goal, but that was ultimately not meant to be though it looked like she had a lot of fun trying. Backup goalie Georgia Howells valiantly took the reins in the Dons’ crease during the second half and made two fantastic saves.
Throughout the game, the Dons featured a balanced offensive effort with 10 different players scoring goals; Ella Thomason scored three, Reese Imrie and Cam Thornton scored two and Maia Upp, Tea Smith, Hanna Hageboeck, Megan Churchill, Lucy Gellman, Grace Imrie and Claire Zimmerman each scored one. Hageboeck had three assists, Thomason had two, and Churchill and Howells each had one. The Draw Controls were also a team effort with the following players contributing: Smith, Thomason, Rurka, Thornton, Jenna Steele and both of the Imrie sisters.
The lacrosse squad gets to take a little break this week. The Dons’ next game is on Tuesday, April 11th at 7pm at Clayton Valley High School.
