The Dons knew that their final regular season game of the season against Miramonte on Friday night would be a competitive match-up and they weren’t wrong! It was such a fun one to watch, with the scoring going back and forth all game long. The energy in the stands was at an all-time high, especially for an away game, when a certain spirited fan came to cheer the girls on.
The Dons went into halftime down 5-7, but the Dons didn’t give up or give in. With the scoring continuing to go back and forth, the Dons finally tied the game up at 12-12 with just over 5 minutes left in the game. The Mats went back up 12-13 about a minute later. The Dons managed to tie it up one last time, but the Mats refused to lose on their senior night and scored the final goal of the game, taking down the Dons with a final score of 13-14.
You would have thought it was Acalanes senior Haley Rurka’s senior night since she scored a team-high 5 goals during the game. Tea Smith had her strongest game of the season with 3 goals of her own. Maya Wang and Grace Imrie each scored 2 goals, with Megan Churchill adding one. Wang also had 2 assists, while Imrie and Rurka each had an assist as well. Wang and Imrie were powerhouses on the draw control, with Smith and Ella Thomason chipping in on that effort.
The Dons have a rematch against the Mats on Tuesday evening at 5pm in the DAL playoffs at Miramonte. The team would LOVE to see as much fan support as possible in their quest for redemption in Orinda. Dons show up!
