On Thursday, March 30th, the Acalanes Varsity Softball Dons hosted the Miramonte Matadors for the final game before spring break and came away with a big victory. The Dons’s three pitchers and stellar defense didn’t allow a single hit, and defeated the Matadors 14-3.
Nicole Parlett led things off in the circle for Acalanes in her first appearance of the season on the mound. The lefthander surrendered three runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out four. Lana Cerejo then came in for the Dons, didn’t allow a hit while striking out three. Maya Shoenhair then finished off the game pitching the final inning striking out 2 more Matadors to give the Dons pitchers 9 total strikeouts for the game.
The Dons were boosted by Hailey Stripling and Emme Young who both went 4-for-4 at the plate. Stripling singled in the first, singled in the second, doubled in the third, and singled in the fourth while Young had singles in the first, second, third and fourth innings.
The Dons broke the game open by scoring six runs in the second inning. The big inning was driven by singles by Young and Stripling, groundouts by Avery Robb and Cerejo, a walk by Sophia Alvarado, and a double by Esa Orman.
A few Dons saw some action at some new positions to start the game. Sophie Sinha got the start behind the plate at Catcher before later moving to 3B and went 2 for 3 at the plate. Lauren Foster got her first start at 2B before moving to the outfield to finish the game.
The Dons totaled 15 hits in the game. Young, Stripling, Robb, Sinha, and Shoenhair all managed multiple hits while Robb and Stripling led the team with 3 RBIs each.
