The Dons wanted a win against Miramonte Tuesday evening in their DAL playoff game, after their close loss to the Mats in their final regular season game, and a decisive win was exactly what they earned. The momentum swung back and forth in the first half, with the Dons edging out the Mats 6-5 at halftime. The second half was a different story, with the Dons going on a 9-0 scoring streak. Acalanes relaxed a bit at the end of the game, allowing Miramonte to score a handful, but the massive lead they had built was ultimately more than enough. The final score was 16-10 in favor of the Dons.
Acalanes’ offense featured six different goal scorers. Grace Imrie was impressive, scoring 6 goals on 6 shots. Megan Churchill found the back of the net 4 times. Lucy Gellman and Tea Smith both scored 2 goals. Maya Wang and Ella Thomason each added one as well. In addition to their goals, Churchill, Wang and Imrie had some great assists. To round out her awesome game, Imrie had a whopping 10 draw controls, with Thomason contributing 3 and Wang adding one. The Dons’ defense was much tighter on Tuesday than it was on Friday, with goalie Addie Martin making some important, timely saves.
With this win the Dons advance to the DAL final game on Friday at 7pm against a formidable Campolindo squad. Though this may seem like a herculean task for the Dons, these girls have shown repeatedly that they play with heart and grit, and will undoubtedly fight to the finish against Campo. Let’s all make the quick trip across town to pack the stands and show up for our girls! Since this is a postseason game, there will be an admission charge.
