Boys Varsity Lacrosse Breaks the Piedmont Curse with a 19-10 Convincing Win

Last night, the Dons Boys Varsity Lax team tunneled their way through the Caldecott to take on a perennial nemesis, the Piedmont Highlanders.

Absent, star D-1 commit, Henry Brayer, the Highlanders were a small, but highly talented squad anchored by Seniors (and Cal Commit) Nate Fredricks, Soren Dixon, Jack Nelson, and Sophomore Goalie Gus Von Metzsch. Fortunately for Dons fans, our boys are stacked with talent on both sides of the field that was on full display last night.

Defensively, we saw Goalie Blake Chehlaoui make excellent saves throughout the evening (11 last night) plus a string of tremendously accurate clears. D-poles George Churchill, John Cain, and Connor Faust expertly locked off Piedmont’s Attackmen throughout the night, while managing to create many turnovers and incredible clears.

On the Offensive side of things, there was a healthy distribution of shooting from standouts Dylan Olson, Marshall Anderson, Cooper Olson, David DePaepe, and speed-demon Zach Appel. Dylan Olson shined last night with 4 goals, 2 assists, and 3 ground balls. FOGO Ben Foox (Fooooox!), despite a series of false starts put on a true display of tenacity and athleticism, punctuated by a late-game face-off, steam-rolling drive for a score.

The Dons played with a consistent intensity, fluidity, and crispness generally reserved for elite high school teams. While everyone last night contributed substantially to that well-oiled machine, the star of the evening was unequivocally Owen Estee. Owen had an astounding 10 goals (from 11 shots) with 4 assists and 4 ground balls, yet always the consummate team player. It was simply spectacular to watch him take command of the game.

In the end, the Dons emerged victorious 19-10 over the Highlanders and break their multi-year curse. So this is what 11-2 looks like…Yes, your Dons Varsity Lax team is 11-2! Our final, regular season game will be 7 pm Friday @ home against Miramonte. Let’s go Boys!!
