Acalanes Boys Varsity Tennis Improves to 4-1 with a 5-4 Victory Over Miramonte

Tuesday was the nicest day we have seen all season weather-wise.  The boys were back from spring break and ready for action.  The stage was set for a showdown with the Miramonte Matadors at home.  Both teams were a little banged up with injuries.  While we got Tyler Toni back in the #1 slot, we were without Luke Brightbill (ankle) and Saaj Shah (tennis elbow).

The match was so intense that I forgot to take pictures for this article.  You’ll have to use your imagination and forgive me for posting a picture from the past.

Acalanes quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the match thanks to decisive singles wins by Toni, Owens, Ledezma and Reeder.  Then things got a little dicey.  Brewer and Snyder both fought hard but went down in close matches.  The focus then turned to our doubles teams.  We needed just one more win to clinch the overall match.  It was the #1 team consisting of Aaron Brown and Kaya Hoeberechts who pulled out that win in an 11-9 third-set tiebreaker.  It was a nervy gutsy clutch win with both teams lined up along the fences cheering.

That win brings the Dons to 4-1 in league play and locks up our eighth win in the past nine matches.  But we’re not even close to done yet.  Our home rematch against Campolindo is this coming Thursday.  The Cougars took us down 8-1 in the first meeting so we will need our A game to even out that head-to-head series.

As always, I thank our amazing parents as the team was again well fed and supported today.  Go Dons!!  Coach Rick
