In an exciting development for the Acalanes sports community, the Dons Girls Beach Volleyball program launched and had their first scrimmage on March 15th against Piedmont High School. The match took place at the Heather Farms sand courts in Walnut Creek, and drew a crowd of enthusiastic supporters.
The Dons put on an impressive display of skill and teamwork, winning four out of the five matches played. Mika Bocobo and Maelin Mason, Nisa Khoury and Kylah Fox, Piper Coy and Sophia Terry, and Rena Liu and Addi Ames all secured straight-set victories, while Kaitlyn Olin and Jade Profilio fought hard but ultimately lost in a close 3-set match.
The entire Acalanes team was thrilled with their performance and the positive energy surrounding the launch of their new program. “Today was about celebrating the bright future of the new Girls Beach Volleyball program at Acalanes,” said Head Coach Haley Walsh. “We have an incredibly talented and dedicated group of players, and I couldn’t be more excited about what we can achieve together.”
The Acalanes Dons Girls Beach Volleyball program has been a long time coming as the sport was recently recognized as a formal high school sport in Northern California. The enthusiasm and passion for the sport was clear by the players and coaching staff, and they are already setting their sights on future matches and tournaments.
“We see so much potential for this team now and going forward,” said Assistant Coach Alan Go. “We’re going to keep working hard and know this terrific group of girls will be constructively pushing themselves and each other to be the best they can be. The sky is the limit.”
Overall, the launch of the Acalanes Dons Girls Beach Volleyball program and their successful first scrimmage against Piedmont High School was a great start, and we hope to see a lot of students coming out to support the Dons at future matches!
