The Dons realized in the first five minutes of their non-league match against Justin-Siena High School of Napa that it was going to be a tough one when the Braves scored a quick five goals. The Dons found their footing and tightened up the game with 8 minutes left in the first half, bringing the score to 4-7. Justin-Siena did not allow Acalanes to stay within reach, going into halftime with a score of 5-10. Throughout the game the Dons displayed stretches of strong play, but it seemed like it was a case of one step forward and two steps back with the Braves taking advantage of any missteps made by the Dons. The second half was more of the same with the Braves leaving in their starters until the end and continuing to score late in the game, though the Dons were able to score the final goal of the match. The end result was 9-20 in favor of the Braves.
Scoring goals for the Dons were Grace Imrie with 5, Haley Rurka with 2 and Maya Wang with 1 (and one by the Justin-Siena goalie). Rurka and Wang also had one assist each. Working hard to control the draw were Ella Thomason and Wang with three draw controls each, and Imrie and Rurka with one a piece. The Dons’ defense had their hands full with the Braves’ balanced and sharp-shooting offense.
