Caramel is an orange-brown confectionery product made by heating a range of sugars. It can be used as a flavoring in puddings and desserts, as a filling in bonbons, or as a topping for ice cream and custard. Oh wait, we played Carmel, my bad. So the game against Carmel wrapped up the Dons 4 game road trip where the team went 2-2. For any parent who attended all 4 games, they would have driven a total of 454 miles, which is about the distance from New York City to Ottawa Canada, Chicago to the home of the College World Series in Omaha, Houston to somewhere in West Texas, or how far my laundry would stretch if laid out end to end between washings.
The Dons offense came out firing on all cylinders, scoring 3 runs in the first inning, 2 runs in the third inning, and 4 runs in the fourth inning. For the game, the team had 10 hits from 9 different players, along with 10 walks. Nicky Fosina led the team with 2 hits.
David Gonzales, Michael Hamilton, Cole Gwaltney, Trevor McCarthy, Dominic Patitucci, Brady Quinn, Ben Pecci, and Augie Martinez also had hits on the day. Brady, Nicky, and David had extra base hits.
The pitchers only gave up 1 hit on the day. Jake Colaco got the start on the mound. He went 4 innings giving up no runs, hits or walks (1 baserunner reached on an error).
Brady Wall pitched the next 2 innings, giving up 3 runs on 1 hit and 4 walks. Cole Gwaltney pitched the last inning, giving up no runs, hits or walks.
