Yesterday, after overcoming the shock of seeing the sun and not rain, the Dons made quick work of the Las Lomas Knights winning all nine lines without dropping a set. Both teams were without key players, but the depth of the Acalanes varsity squad was again on display. The scores listed below tell the story of how lopsided the win was, and I’d like to recognize Diego Ledezma, Kit Sheirer and Quincy Patterson. This was their first Dons varsity match and all three recorded wins.
The rest of the Diablo Athletic League (DAL) is starting to take shape as Miramonte defeated Northgate on Wednesday 5-4, and Campolindo defeated Northgate on Thursday 5-4. The rivalries from last year have resurfaced. Both Miramonte and Campolindo are now 2-0, while the Dons are 1-1. We have our work cut out for us this year.
Next week, we have three matches – weather permitting. Monday is College Park away, Tuesday is Northgate at home, and we play College Park at home on Thursday. The following week is spring break. We are hoping the week off will give a few of our injured players some extra time to heal, especially Tyler Toni who is recovering from a mild hamstring pull.
Thanks again to family members who braved the cold weather at Las Lomas and cheered the squad on. We have the best fan base in the league!
