The Dons left it all on the field Friday night against a young, scrappy team from Ukiah. Acalanes defensive efforts & offensive pressure enabled our boys to hold possession and keep the ball in the attacking zone for much of the game. In the first half Andrew Huchingson launched a beautiful cross where Eli Roth finished with a header goal. Ukiah scored a late goal in the first half to send it tied into halftime. Throughout the second half, the Dons continued to dominate. Ben Pecci assisted to Eli Roth for the second goal. With less than 2 minutes in regulation time, the AR flagged off sides on Ukiah but the play continued resulting in a foul in the box. The center ref waived off the offsides infraction after conferring with the AR, much to the dismay of the Acalanes players and fans. This game-changing call allowed Ukiah to tie the game after a successful PK. After a short break, the first 10 minute golden goal overtime began. The Dons continued to play strong with several scoring chances that they could not convert. After the scoreless first overtime, a second 10 minute overtime ensued. In the waning moments of the second overtime, Ukiah scored on a sudden counterattack and ending the season for the Dons. The boys gave it all they had on the field, playing their hearts out, each of them contributing in crucial ways to the game. They were visibly the better team and deserved the win but displayed fortitude and sportsmanship in the loss. Emotions were evident after the game, especially for the senior players who had just played their last game for Acalanes. This was a unique group with a tight bond which shined in each game. The Dons enjoyed 13 wins and 2 ties this season. Cheers to our Men’s Soccer as they made all the fans so proud to be a Don!
