It was another frigid night for Girls Varsity Lacrosse, but the Dons kept the heat on high, defeating Berkeley 17-6. The Dons managed to maintain possession of the ball for the majority of the game and picked up more and more momentum as the game went on. The flow of the game was interrupted by numerous Yellowjacket fouls, but that didn’t slow down the Dons’ offense. Junior Grace Imrie was unstoppable with 7 goals on 7 shots. Senior Haley Rurka scored 3, junior Tea Smith and sophomore Megan Churchill netted 2 each, and senior Hanna Hageboeck and junior Ella Thomason added one a piece. Assists were spread fairly evenly throughout the Middies and Attack; Thomason had 2 and Smith, Hageboeck, Churchill, Imrie and senior Maya Wang each had one.
The Dons asserted control from the draw circle with Imrie and Wang combining for an overwhelming 14 draw controls and Thomason adding a couple more. Thomason also controlled 3 loose balls, Wang controlled 2 and junior Kelly Todhunter, Rurka and Imrie each controlled one.
The Dons’ defense had another strong performance, keeping the Yellowjacket goals to a minimum and sparking some effective counterattacks. Junior goalie Addie Martin made 7 spectacular saves on 15 shots.
The Dons play away again and will be looking to earn their third win of the season on Tuesday, Feb 28th at 7pm at Amador Valley High School. Go Dons!
