The JV Men’s Dons started fast against the Northgate Broncos, controlling play with short quick passes moving the ball around the pitch at will. Northgate was able to counter by getting a number of free kicks 25-30 yards out but the Acalanes D and keeper Jackson Hink were up to the task. The Dons sped up play and suddenly long passing lanes opened up with a number of nice runs by Hank Sutherland, Hank Bauer and Alex Jeon. Acalanes finally broke through at the 23rd minute as Ethan Wilberts placed a lob into the middle of the field for Jeong who beat his defender and placed it into the corner for a 1-0 lead. The Dons took that lead into halftime and once again seemed in control, however, Northgate countered with two quick strikes, one on a bouncing ball the Dons just couldn’t clear and a hustle play on a long ball towards goal which the Bronco striker was able to get to before the keeper. Acalanes continued to keep the pressure on and had multiple chances to tie but just couldn’t get it into the net. Other players to mention include Jackson Hink’s performance in goal in the 2nd half, Jeremy Lara’s consistent midfield play and Nick Mitroff who played well at outside back. Fought hard with a loss 1-2
