Acalanes was cautious in the first quarter against the high shooting average of Los Lomas. The Dons took a minute looking for quality shots against the LL defense as well. However, once the boy’s frosh basketball team got into the game, they took an 8-point run vs LL 2 pts to end the 2nd period 26 to 27.
The start of the 3rd quarter got the pace hyped up when Lorenzo Cangini floated a 3 pointer over Los Lomas. The score was 29 to 27, Acalanes. Then, Ilias Kaplanis-Jones had several fast breaks with floaters making it hard for Los Lomas to keep up. The Dons also adjusted to Las Lomas offensive play of chucking the ball way down court by Arman Craig intercepting the ball for the turnover and scoring a few 2-pointers. It was a battle in the 3rd period, but Acalanes maintained the 34-to-34-point tie going into the final quarter.
During the break the Acalanes Coaches were high energy with the team intensity reviewing the next strategies. The 4th quarter revved up the gym when Lorenzo Cangini dropped another 3 pointer first thing. The fans were amped with cheers. Then Ryder Malm, after some attempted layups, dropped an awesome shot bringing the Dons into the lead 46 to 40. Acalanes defense turned it up a notch not letting Los Lomas score while taking a 10-point run to win the game 54 to Los Lomas 44. Los Lomas thought they had a chance but quickly found out Acalanes won’t be matched!
