On finals Friday the Dons kicked off the winter break taking on Concord. Concord grabbed the lead early with a couple of threes but the Dons bounced back quickly with a bucket from Jake inside and with two triples from Theo Stoll and one from Jordan Brown to take control again, helped by some better defense at the other end. Theo capped the scoring with a nice baseline drive to end Q1 with Acalanes leading 19-11.
Jack Bayless led off the second half scoring with an and 1 from Theo and Jordan got a fast break layup off a steal. Colin Norstad got his first of the game on a tip in and Theo knocked down another trifecta to put the Dons up 15 early in the quarter, followed by a Brady Quinn three. The threes continued to fall with Jake hitting one, then getting a steal and firing to Brady for a layup and a 23 point lead. Bayless added a nice elbow jumper to hold the lead, much to the delight of his large elementary school hoops team cheering section. Joe Reidenbach got his first points of the year coming off an ankle injury with an and 1 in the post and the Dons took a 41-16 lead into halftime.
Q3 continued to be all Dons with Zubin getting a crafty and 1 out of the gate. Jake hammered a 2-handed dunk down the lane off a nice feed from Theo and then threw several long outlets for easy buckets including one to Justin Zegarowski. Joe got another basket on a nice dime inside and then Landon Santos, also coming off injury got his first basket of the year. The quarter ended with a buzzer beater 3 from Brady.
Q4 saw Trevor Carrillo get the the line and convert a free throw, and Jordan set Joe up for another bucket shortly after. Nate Bennett got on the board with a nice drive and a tough finish to keep the train rolling. Liam Krackler converted a nice and 1 after a quick feed from Nate for his first of the night, followed by Landon getting to the line and Ian Salmon getting a tricky finish for two. A fast break layup from Landon was triggered by a Cooper Edelman block to round out the scoring and a 77-33 Acalanes win. Theo led the scoring with 13 and Jake added 9 after dealing with some early foul trouble. All in all a solid team effort that saw court time for everyone. The Dons next face Alameda at home on Wednesday the 21st at 7pm, we’d love to see a lot of fans there!
