It was revenge time vs Campo and the Dons came to play. Henry Souza (So) got the start and looked nervous at first, along with a large crowd of onlooking Dons fans, and issued a 4 pitch walk to start the game. That’s about where the nerves disappeared, and Henry and the Dons took charge. The next batter hit the ball hard to 3rd but Gavin Bender (So) made the stop and got it to Bergman at 2nd in time to get the lead runner, not in time for a double play. No problem, Henry induced another ground ball this time to Dante Montgomery (Sr) who stepped on second and fired to first in time for the double play to get the Dons out of the inning.
The Dons in the bottom of the first all hit the ball hard which was an omen of things to come, but the Campo D made several good plays and got out of the inning unscathed. In the 2nd, Henry continued his dominating run, setting down Campo’s 4-5-6 hitters in order. In the Dons second, the Dons bats started finding holes. Singles by Luke Souza (Sr), Bender, and Montgomery, and a groundout RBI by Connor McPhail (Sr), led to 2 Dons Runs. The RBI groundout was a well-timed and executed hit and run. Go Dons. Aca 2 – Campo 0
Both offenses failed to score in the 3rd but added one run each in the 4th. Campo’s Harper doubled down the line to left and scored on a strange double play one batter later. Campo hit a sac fly to right for the second out of the inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd, but the Campo runner at 2nd left early on the fly out. On appeal he was out when the Dons got the ball to 2nd base – but not before the other Campo runner had scored. A HBP and a Campo error led to a Dons run on a Sac Fly by Bergman. Aca 3 – Campo 1.
Henry and the Dons defense rolled the 5th and 6th, 6 up 6 down. In the bottom of the 6th, Bergman doubled to left and nearly scored from 2nd on another classic, Will Berrien bunt but the pitcher bobbled it long enough for him to see what Bergman had planned. Nico O’Rourke (Jr) knocked him in anyway with an RBI groundout. Aca 4 – Campo 1.
That’s where the score ended as Henry Souza notched another complete game victory for the Dons. Luke Souza and Gavin Bender chipped in 2 hits each, and the defense sparkled.
