The Dons secured the victory over the Cougars, pretty quickly thanks to eight runs in the first inning. Scarlett Popplardo, Esa Orman, Tess Gundacker, Sophia Alvarado, Emme Young, and Emmi Cronin all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. The first inning Dons scored a whopping 8 runs, followed by 4 runs in the second inning, 2 runs in the third inning and throw one more up on the scoreboard in the fifth inning.
Usually the Dons play seven innings, but the mercy rule was used in the 5th inning. It is called the mercy rule because it spares further humiliation for the other team when the lead is so large. Giving Lana Cerejo only five innings on the mound for the Dons. The hurler surrendered four runs on five hits over five innings. The Cougar’s pitcher allowed 11 hits and 15 runs over five innings.
The Dons hits were by: Young and Cronin all collected multiple hits for Lady Dons. Emmi Cronin tripled in the first inning (that’s cool!). Young led Lady Dons with three hits in four at bats and together the team beat campo, 15 to 3.
The Dons head to Los Lomas today and Mt. Diablo on Thursday.
Let’s Go Dons!
