This past Tuesday, we hosted Northgate for our 3rd dual meet. The Broncos have historically been some of our toughest competition, but spirited performances in all events lifted the Dons to resounding victories of 82-53 (girls) and 97-24 (boys)! Sprints & Hurdles: Girls and Boys make clean sweeps of the 100 meter dash, and 100% of competing Acalanes students PR!PRs galore! Big shoutouts to:Kailee Van Handel and Abigail Palmer in the 200!Colin Glick and Giancarlo Ramirez with double PRs!Jasmine Frost in the 100!Zoe Latimer, Jasmine Latimer, and Sabrina Koo with double PRs! Levi Johnson and Ben Brekke in the 400! Paul Kuhner PRs in the 100 meter dash – his time of 10.89 makes him the second person in school history to run under 10.90, and he is currently #3 in the 200 with another PR of 22.24 on the dayTrevor Rogers PRs in the 200 as well, moving up to #8 all time – him and Paul become the first pair of teammates in school history to break 23 in the same year! Carly Harriman breaks 13 in the 100 meter dash – she becomes one of only 11 girls in school history to do so with her time of 12.99 – she also PRs in the 300 Hurdles and wins the High Jump Evan Malmquist, running contested this time, pops off a huge 2 second PR in the 110 meter hurdles to take the #1 spot in DALLauren Yee defeats her long time rival, Mary Swanson of Northgate, to win the girls 400Mike Kuhner snags wins in both 400 meter dash and 300 hurdles, and perhaps more importantly, convinces his teammates RC Means and Adam Emtage – Adam ends up taking 3rd in the event despite having never hurdled before! | Distance: Down a few star athletes, the young Dons stepped up big time and swung the meet! The score ended up becoming so lopsided largely because of the contributions of athletes called up to Varsity for the first time. Frosh Cameron Powell wins the varsity girls 800! She is followed closely by fellow frosh Leila Hamidi (pictured above) who surges to the finish line to snag second place in her first-ever varsity race! Abby Drake notches a double PR in the 1600/3200 double! Sam Dempsey-Fehling breaks 5 minutes in the 1600 and 11 minutes in the 3200! Nathan Joseph continues his PR streak in the 1600! Caroline Crossland runs a season-best in the 1600, Josephine Teran PRsin the event as well! Tyler Hunt, after taking 2nd in the 1600, comes back to break 2 minutes in the 800 for the second week in a row, storming past Northgate senior Aidan Sunbury in the last 100 for the win! |
Girl’s 4×400 (Lauren Yee, Dulci Vail, Portia Seymour, and Natalie Lyons, and ) surges to a DAL #1 and NCS #9 PR of 4:18.72! Kyle Biewlawski, Ethan Torres, Trevor Rogers, and Paul Kuhner overcome a bad handoff to set the school record in the 4×100 Relay, which had stood unbroken since 1987! The girl’s 4×100 Relay (Carly Harriman, Sophia Chinn, Haley Chelemedos, and Bella Starbuck) also sets a season-best, breaking 51 for the first time on their approach to the record board. The boys 4×400, behind an incredible second leg from Trevor Rogers, downs former DAL #1 Northgate to take the DAL lead and NCS #6 spot |
Jumps: Get the brooms out! Dons sweep: Boys Long Jump, Boys Triple Jum, Boys High Jump, Girls High Jump, Girls Pole Vault. Ellis Burger makes his debut, takes first in the high jump and the triple jump, and scores in the triple. Portia Seymour PRs in the triple jump! Justin Zegarowksi continues his double LJ/TJ PR streak! Sophia Chinn wins the long jump! Trevor Rogers improves to 22-4 in the long jump, moving up to #4 in school history and passing Coach Joy’s brother, Chip UpshawDominic Saricia makes it into two digits in the Pole Vault, clearing 10 feet for the first time in his career! Osanna Deng takes first in the Girls’ Pole Vault with a 7’6” PR! Unable to compete, Marshall Lockwood and Brody Lim help out at the Long Jump – both look to return soon | Throws: Samya Johnson throws the shotput 21 feet to take 3rd! Marcus Julian improves to 40’5” in the shotput, continuing his PR streak, Kyle Otsuka does the same in the discus, improving to 127’4” – both take home wins. Apple Walton PRs by nearly 10 feet to win the Girl’s Discus! Led by Vic Nicolacakis, Andrew Tresser, Zach Robb, and Alex Vasicek also notch PRs on the day.
