The girls varsity lacrosse team ended last week with a convincing win against Clayton Valley Charter school. The first half was overwhelmingly favorable for the Dons as we witnessed some nice moves to the goal by #61 Tea Smith, good hard play and smart field positioning by #35 Sammy Hess and nice takeaways by #17 Haley Rurka. #21 Gabriela Benveniste received a bunch of congratulatory stick-slaps from her teammates as she exited the field in a game that finished the week strongly.
Shout out for the assists in this game go to #2 Avery Bahl, #10 Hanna Hageboeck, #24 Grace Imrie and two assists by #15 Megan Churchill. #17 Haley Rurka and # 15 Megan Churchill had 4 goals a piece, #24 Grace Imrie had 2, along with impressive goals by #16 Lucy Gellman and two by #45 Michelle Goll. #65 Addie Martin successfully defended 10 shots on goal leading to a final score of 13-6 .
Last night was a tight game against Monte Vista. The first half delivered the most action with plenty of turnovers, pick-offs, good clears and solid defensive rides. The Mustangs scored early, but a quick answer by #17 Haley Rurka made it 1-1. #2 Avery Bahl scored a nice goal to bring the lead to the Dons at 2-1. But Monte Vista went on a roll and the first half ended with them leading 5-3, after #15 Megan Churchill contributed the third goal.
The second half was a tight battle with no scoring for nearly 24 of the 25 minutes of the half. The Mustangs drew a 2 minute penalty and #17 Haley Rurka was able to chisel one more to the scoreboard making it 5-4 with only 1 minute remaining. Unfortunately the final draw went to the Mustangs, and the game ended with the Don’s down by 1.
This brings the team to a 5-5 record, but 5-1 in league play. Head Royce on Friday kicks off a tough schedule for the second half of the season, with 7 games remaining.
GO DONS!
