The Dons JV boys volleyball team rolled to three straight victories over the past week to kick off their season in grand fashion. Last week the team began their season at home with a 25-15, 25-23 victory over the Berkeley High Yellowjackets. Many Dons contributed to the win including freshmen Matthew Law and Maddox Malm with some key kills and excellent passing from sophomores Tommy Terrien and Douglas Roberts.
The Dons then took on the Liberty High Lions on Wednesday and again emerged with a straight-set victory with scores of 25-12, 25-15. Griffin Ruebner stood out among the Dons with several impressive kills on the Lions defense. The Dons again displayed some excellent serving including one shown below from Terrien.
Finally, the Dons traveled to Orinda on Friday to take on the Miramonte Mats in the league opener. The Dons sprinted out to a big lead in the first game off great serving from Law and Malm. Acalanes finished off the game with a 25-15 win, but then stumbled in the second game due to some uncharacteristic errors. However, the Dons finished off the Mats with a 15-10 win in the deciding third game, with Joe Colachico delivering some key points off his serve including the one shown below.
The JVers hope to continue their strong play with an away game Tuesday at College Park and their first league home game Thursday at 5pm vs. Las Lomas. Come out and support the Dons volleyballers!
