When you win a game in the final 17 seconds of regulation time, every play that led to that moment counted. After nearly an hour of spirited lacrosse, the Dons varsity girls lacrosse team united to beat the Northgate Broncos 11-10 with a winning goal by Maya Wang. It was a team effort, with 8 players contributing to the scoreboard: Haley Rurka, Megan Churchill and Maya Wang each scored twice and Avery Bahl, Lulu Milnes, Grace Imrie, Samantha Louie and defender Elise Flagg each added one. Scoring goals is critical, but it’s about the culmination of strong plays that lead to those opportunities. Every winning draw, turnover and save mattered as the two teams traded the lead multiple times. After trailing 6-8 at halftime, the Dons reined in the Broncos for the second half and surpassed them in the final seconds of the game! The win was huge and is shared by every player and coach of this team – – from Addie Martin’s goalkeeping, to the strong team defense, to the midfield ball control, to the threatening attack, to the sidelines which roared with support. Looking forward to building a strong season off this impressive and well-earned Win!
Acalanes JV ladies Dons played a tough Northgate team and beat them 12 to 7. Captains Leyna Mactmes, Ella Thomason and Ella Easely each had three goals. Maia Upp and freshman Emme Cain and Campbell Evans also contributed to the scoring. It was a real team effort as the defense led by Natalie Hiatt was simply incredible and almost completely shut Northgate down the entire second half. The Lady Dons controlled the ball and the game. Amazing! FEAR THE BLUE!
Next up…the Dons travel to Carondelet on Wednesday, JV 530pm and Varsity at 7pm.
