It was a beautiful night for basketball with the new fan policy in effect, and a maximum allowable crowd turned out with equal representation from both Acalanes and Campolindo. It was an exciting start to the game with Theo Stoll getting the first 4 points early and Noah Bloch adding a nice 3 pointer in the opening minutes. Campo came out hot as well and it was a back and forth first quarter. Campo pulled out to an 18 point lead at the half with a late second quarter surge as the teams went into halftime. Coach Bill Powers must have had some strong advice for the team as they came out aggressive in the second half with Tate Nelson getting 5 quick points and Jake Davis running off 7 including an and-1 and a 2 handed baseline dunk that got the crowd fired up. Davis also had a number of huge blocks which helped keep the Dons in the game until a late Campo run in the third quarter.
Coach Powers looked to get most of the team some solid experience competing in front of the large crowd with frequent substitutions and that allowed for some balanced scoring. Nelson and Davis each had 7, Jack Bayless added 6, Noah had 5, Theo and Taran Krishnan each had 4, Zubin Acuna hit a 3, and Colin Norstad had a putback 2 to go along with a number of rebounds. As the game wore on there was just too much offense from St. Mary’s bound Aiden Mahaney, and coupled with Campo’s swarming defense the Dons dropped this league game. It was great to see the strong fan support and the team looks forward to good crowds this week for their 3 home games: Monday v. Miramonte, Wednesday v, College Park, and Friday Senior night v. Clayton Valley.
