Acalanes was waiting to pounce on the Cougars in their highly anticipated rematch Friday evening in Lafayette. Campolindo, unfortunately, brought their stout defense, and made it very difficult for the Dons to get good shot attempts, ultimately breezing to a 58-46 victory.
Campolindo used that tough defense and good free throw shooting to jump to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter, and extend it to 23-6 midway through the second.
That’s when the Dons took control, and had their best moments of the contest, scoring 13 straight points. Trevor Carillo used his strength to put in a short range bank shot, then Liam Krackeler hit a 3-pointer and converted a layup off of an Ian Salmon steal. Ian followed with a midrange jumper, and then Joe Reidenbach hit a turnaround jumper and nailed a couple free throws to narrow the Don’s deficit to 23-19.
That moment turned out to be the high water mark for Acalanes. Campo responded with an 8-0 run of their own to take a 12 point lead into the half and never looked back.
Liam Krackeler led the Dons with 15 points on 6-7 shooting including 3 for 3 from downtown. Joe Reidenbach added 10 points, Jaden McClane had 6, and Alexander Butler chipped in with 5. Jaden and Ian Salmon led Acalanes with 6 rebounds apiece.
