In the final contest of a tough 3 game road trip this week, Acalanes fell just short against Northgate, 48-45.
The Dons had to battle back from another tough start, this time against the Broncos 2-3 zone, falling behind 15-5 after the first quarter. But the Dons turned it around in the 2nd. Jaden McClane and Trevor Carillo’s each established their inside game, and the Dons narrowed the gap to 5 points at halftime.
Unfortunately the 3rd quarter didn’t go Acalanes way. It took an Ian Salmon 3 pointer and Jaden’s 12 foot jumper to keep things from becoming a disaster, as the Dons faced a 41-28 deficit to start the 4th.
The 4th quarter was an entirely different story. The Dons put together a furious comeback led by Liam Krackeler, who had a pair of three-pointers and a steal converted into a left-handed layup all within a nifty 3 minute sequence. Jaden McClane added another midrange jumper and JB Frolich scored on a deep jumper in the closing minute to narrow the gap to 3 points before time expired.
Liam Krackeler led the Dons with 11 points, and grabbed 6 rebounds. Jaden McClane had 10 points and 12 rebounds, for yet another double-double on the season. Ian Salmon, Trevor Carillo and Liam Gallagher all contributed 5 points as well.
The Dons return home to Lafayette next week for games against Las Lomas and Campolindo.
