The Lady Dons made it 14 in a row Friday night with a 53 to 29 victory over Northgate. Coming into the season many viewed Northgate as the league favorite given their senior heavy roster and solid league performance last season. It was a big match-up Friday night and the young Lady Dons proved up to the challenge. The girls jumped all over Northgate early behind a barrage of 3 pointers from KK Lacanlale and intense full court defense. When the first quarter ended it was 18 to 6 Dons firmly in control. Northgate spent the rest of the night trying to play catch-up, but could not overcome the speed and defensive intensity the Dons played with. The win puts the girls at 5 and 0 in League and a 2-game lead over the next closest team.
Freshmen Karyss Lacanlale made her case for League MVP with an absolute monster game scoring 28 and completely controlling the game from her point guard role. Fellow freshmen Sophie Chinn had 11 points and played unbelievable defense all night long on Northgate’s 2nd best player. Two other special shot outs go to Emily Du for her defensive effort against Northgate’s best player and a very good game rebounding. And Jenna Steele who came off the bench to provide a huge spark with endless smart plays, steals and assists. The girls are in action next against Las Lomas Monday night.
