The Oakland Lacrosse Club hosted a lacrosse jamboree for the entire Bay Area on December 4, 2021. It was a fundraiser to support their program. The mission of Oakland Lacrosse is to support Oakland Public School students in becoming healthy, confident, and self-empowered youth effectively to navigate systems, overcome challenges, and achieve their education and life goals”.
The Acalanes Lady Dons Lacrosse Team sent significantly more players to support Oakland Lacrosse than any school in the entire Bay Area. Junior Haley Rurka organized this for the Acalanes Girls Lacrosse team, and encouraged our large turnout. We sent three teams consisting of 5 to 6 players on each team. Interestingly no other DAL (Boys or Girls) sent a team but as we know Dons show up!
The format was quite different then most lacrosse tournaments and the morning was spent playing scrimmages against other teams. For the afternoon, the players from throughout Oakland and the entire Bay Area were divided up into new teams. The afternoon session was incredibly special as our young ladies got to hang out and play with girls from many different places with different backgrounds.
It was a wonderful day for all and I know each and every player had a great time and made new friends. We can’t wait to host our own Jamboree to benefit Oakland Lacrosse with the Oakland High Schools bringing teams to Acalanes on Saturday April 24, 2022 for several scrimmages.
