Our Varsity Lady Dons Water Polo team hosted cross-district rival Las Lomas tonight at home. Acalanes started off strong, one-minute into the game, Wendy Heffelfinger (So) stole the ball from LL and made a great pass to her older sister Heidi Heffelfinger (Sr) who buried the ball in the back of the net for the Dons 1st goal. Less than 30-seconds later, Dons goalie Audrey Cox (Jr) made a long pass to a counter-attacking Heidi which Heidi put away, to put the Dons up 2-0 (Great assist Audrey!). After a goal by LL, for a score of 2-1, Wendy passed to Sarah Potter (Jr) who put a shot in the back of the net from distance to extend the Dons lead to 3-1 (Great job Wendy & Sarah!) .

To start the 2nd period, Olivia Williams (So) fed Heidi the ball for a goal to put Acalanes up 4-1 on a power play drawn by Heidi. Defense for both teams played solid, 2nd period ending with the same score of 4-1. Las Lomas fought back strongly in the 3rd, scoring 3 to tie the game at 4, despite a lot of scoring opportunities by the Lady Dons.

Heidi started off the scoring in the 4th with a goal off of a penalty shot, drawn by Maize O’hare (Jr). Less than 30-seconds later, Maize fed Sarah Potter to put the Lady Dons up by 2. One minute later Potter feeds Heide and Heide buries it in the back of the net to bring the score to 7-4 Acalanes. LL scores on a power play opportunity to cut Acalanes lead to 7-5, but our Lady Dons bounced right back with a goal from Sarah Potter to put the game away for the Lady Dons.
