Coming off an incredible three year run where they went 64-3, this new Dons team worked to continue the legacy in a 13-9 victory over Tamalpais High. With only 1 returning starter (Heidi Heffelfinger) the team will have to learn how to play with each other over the season. Heidi led all scorers with 9 goals, with 1 each from Sara Archer, Franny Daughters, Olivia Williams and Wendy Heffelfinger. Maizie O’Hare led with 3 assists and Audrey Cox proved to be staunch in her debut in goal for varsity.
The first quarter opened up with what would become a familiar sight this game – a goal by Heidi Heffelfinger, assisted by her sister Wendy. After Tam equaled it up, Heidi followed back up with another goal and then the first quarter wrapped with another Don’s goal from Sara Archer.
Tam came out strong in the second quarter and got the game to 6-5 after 2 more from Heidi and one from Olivia. The third quarter opened up with a goal from the younger Wendy Heffelfinger, followed by 3 more from sister Heidi. The game wrapped with 2 more from Heidi and one from Franny Daughters to end 13-9.
JV posted a great win 9-3 also at Tam. Both teams look to continue their winning ways at the Acalanes Invitational next weekend.
