The lady Broncos stepped onto our home court for the second time this season, with expectations of a
repeat win; after having previously handed our Dons their only loss thus far this season. However, our
girls had something else in mind. The anticipation was quickly squelched as the Dons got out to an early
lead on a Mika Bocobo 7-0 serving run, right out of the gate. Northgate then called a timeout in an
attempt to freeze out Mika, but to no avail, as the Broncos could not seem to get their footing in
response to the backrow blockade-type defense of Jade Profilio, Mia Iams, Chloe Lockewood and Mika Bocobo combined, with powerful hitting from Tea Sloane Smith and Chloe Lockewood. Northgate came back to make it 10-3, but a tooled kill from Tea Sloane Smith got the sideout, and the Dons were once again off to the races. Chloe Lockewood came in with some exclamation points and with a block by Tea Sloane and another successful kill by Chloe Lockewood to move the needle to 13-4. The Broncos gained a little momentum
but solid team play by the Dons, kept their opponent at bay. With a serve run by Jade Profilio and a notable head pounding kill (really, the ball hit the backrow player straight in the head) by Mika Bocobo, the Dons took the
score to 17-8. Tea Sloane Smith with hit after hit and block after block was a machine in helping to rack up further
points. Eva McGrath got on a late game serve run and before we knew it, it was 24-9. With a final kill by Tea Slone Smith the Dons take the set. Final score: 25-9.
In the second game, the Broncos came out fighting and took an early 4-1 lead. But on a perfect set by Eva McGrath and another kill by Tea Sloane, the Dons regained possession and never looked back. In addition to great ups in the back row, Jade Profilio got on another serve run that included several aces – taking the score to 9-4. On a solid pass from Paige Passalacqua, Eva McGrath set Tea Slone Smith for a well placed kill. Chloe Lockewood then served up some blistering aces. The Broncos fought to stay in the game bringing the score to 14-12. Eva McGrath then served up two aces to power up the Dons and like a freight train, the Dons rapidly racked up the more points. Mika Bocobo and Jade Profilio continued to dig in the back row, passing to Eva McGrath who set Tea Slone Smith for more smartly placed kills. With an impressive back set by Eva McGrath, Mika Bocobo slammed a cross-court kill and just like that, the score was 24-13. The Dons finish off the Broncos with a sneaky tip by Eva McGrath, ending the game at 25-15.
